DSNY to start fining food businesses for incorrect trash disposal

The Department of Sanitation will now start fining food-related businesses that don’t use garbage bins when throwing out their trash.
DSNY has been requiring the use of garbage bins since the start of August and handing out warnings but starting on Sept. 1 will begin issuing fines.
The fines start at $50 and can go up to $200. DSNY even has begun posting about certain spots that haven’t been following those guidelines
The major change is aimed at curbing the rat issue and also helping the city smell more pleasant.
This rule applies to any business that sells food, including restaurants, delis, and supermarkets.
