Residents of Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood say they have been besieged by a rash of car break-ins.
Police say glass shards have become part of the landscape as thieves break windows to enter the vehicles. DUMBO resident Christopher Frank says his car was broken into on Plymouth Street last week.
"I came back one weekend and the right passenger window was broken in," he says.
Residents say that a faded message on Water Street, one of the more heavily targeted blocks, suggests that a local resident is behind the break-ins. "It happens so regularly that if police wanted to just scout it out, they probably could," says Felix Fung, who owns a business in DUMBO.
A police spokesperson says the precinct is increasing the presence of plainclothes officers who patrol the area in an effort to stop the break-ins.
