Two early morning crashes caused major traffic delays across Middlesex County on Monday.

In Woodbridge, a dump truck lost control on the Route 9 exit ramp to I-287 near Route 440. The truck came close to going over an embankment above moving traffic. The exit was blocked for several hours as crews worked to remove the vehicle.

Across the Raritan River, in Sayreville, six cars were involved in a crash on Washington Road in front of Sayreville War Memorial High School.

“We had a multi-vehicle [crash] with one person entrapped and rolled over on its side. We had to extricate them out of the vehicle,” said Chief George Gawron of the Sayreville Fire Department.

The driver was alert when taken to the hospital. Officials said no one from the high school was involved.

Cleanup and towing took several hours.
