FDNY: 6 people hurt in Brownsville apartment fire
A fire broke out Friday morning at a Brownsville apartment.
News 12 is told the fire started just before 5 a.m. at 360 Chester St.
FDNY crews say six people were injured in the flames, but no injuries were life threatening.
A neighbor told News 12 the fire may have started on the first floor. Firefighters on scene were seen breaking the windows on the first floor.
A woman, who did not want to be on camera, says she woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of smoke. She says her living room filled with smoke, so she evacuated with her children.
"You can see in the window right there, the fire was in that kitchen in the front and that firemen going down the hallway, so if they were in the back bedroom they had to go past the fire down that hallway to remove the victims from the apartment," says FDNY Acting Deputy Chief Sal Palmeri.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
