The deadline to register ahead of the primary election is here, and voters across New York City are already heading to polling sites to cast their ballots early.

In Canarsie, activity was underway at P.S. 68, where voters lined up hoping to avoid Election Day crowds and make their voices heard ahead of the June 23 primary.

The race to Election Day is officially on, with thousands of New Yorkers expected to vote early in several key congressional and state contests.

The outcomes could help shape New York’s political landscape and set the tone for upcoming midterm elections, as voters weigh in on issues that directly impact their communities.

"it's time for a change. I hate to see fans being increased on education, employment and health services for the poor, needy," said voter, France.

"We need to get together, stand together and do the right thing. You know, we have to vote. It's very important that you vote, regardless of what it means to you - it's the right thing to do," said voter, Kim.

Officials remind voters that while the deadline for early voting registration is here, there is still time to participate. Polls close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, with extended hours available on Tuesday and Wednesday.
