East Flatbush residents hosted the third annual "Occupy the Corner" event at Church and Utica avenues, with hopes to have a safe summer.

The East Flatbush Village says it aims to provide community engagement through different events and activities throughout the year. However, members love going to different areas throughout the neighborhood to help promote peace in areas that may have suffered with violence.

"We try to do a lot of wraparound services to help support not just mental health but anti-gun violence so it's very, and a selfish way it's rewarding for me because it's almost like a tangible change that you see," Ron London, program director EFV.

Many of the youth staff told News 12 they love being part of an organization that looks out for them.

"A lot of people see what's wrong with the community but they don't want to do anything to help or feel like they are helpless so EFV is an organization that helps you feel her and helps you find different ways that you can use your talents," said Eynee Waterman, one of the staff members.

News 12's Daniella Rodriguez spoke to some of the community members about safety resources and how to have a safe summer.
