El Museo del Barrio launched a new exhibit after it was delayed by the pandemic.
El Museo del Barrio's latest exhibit featuring Latin American contemporary art was supposed to open in October 2020, but it was delayed until this spring due to the pandemic.
The exhibit is the museum's first large-scale survey of Latin American art. It features artists from across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Susanna Temkin is a curator at the museum. She says the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against systemic racism are some of the themes and influences seen throughout the exhibit.
"All of the events that we lived through last year really ended up inflecting this exhibition in a really strong way," Temkin says. "The name of the exhibit is 'Estamos Bien,' which means kind of like we're fine or it's good."
Temkin says the phrase can be sarcastic, opened ended or just about pushing through.
You can visit the exhibit on weekends until Sept. 26.
