As the housing crisis continues to be a major issue in the city, two local congressmembers are trying to get billions of dollars in aid for NYCHA.
Representatives Dan Goldman and Nydia Velazquez introduced the Public Housing Emergency Response Act this month. The bill would increase the federal investment to eliminate repair backlogs and improve overall living conditions.
Congressmember Goldman says funding NYCHA needs to be a top priority and this kind of support is long overdue. The act would allocate $32 billion to go directly to NYCHA.
Goldman acknowledges that the bill faces a challenge in the Republican led-house.
