Mikayla Capers, the young girl who survived a gruesome elevator stabbing earlier this summer, returned to school Thursday.
The happy 7-year-old started third grade and was all smiles as she hopped off the school bus carrying her brand new backpack. She was excited to see her old friends and meet her new teachers.
The attack back in June took the life of her best friend, P.J. Avitto. Capers and her family have since moved and want to put the experience behind them.
Capers says she is going to study hard so that one day she can become a doctor or a lawyer.
