Elevators at Prospect Park subway station to be closed for 8 months
Both elevators servicing the Prospect Park Subway Station will be closed until at least August – part of an MTA project to proactively rebuild and replace many of them to help avoid future breakdowns and closures.
Many passengers told News 12 that the Prospect Park station elevators often do get stuck or shake. Parents, nannies and older residents told News 12 that the closure there will be a major inconvenience, saying they specifically use this station because of the elevators.
The MTA says riders who need elevators can go to either the Church Avenue or Atlantic Avenue subway stations, which do have working elevators. However, those are not necessarily close or walkable. Brooklyn Community Board 9 says it has been asking the MTA to provide free shuttles from those stations to make it easier, but so far, they have not heard back. News 12 also reached out to the MTA to ask about the request. CB9 has been working to do everything it can to inform the neighborhood about the closures.
