A Bedford-Stuyvesant family is grieving the loss of their dog after police say a driver hit the pet and drove off.

It happened on Sept. 26 near Van Buren Street and Lewis Avenue in Bed-Stuy.

The family says a driver in a Jeep Wrangler ran over their dog, Mila, during an evening walk.

Police say the driver then drove onto the sidewalk, hitting two parked cars before speeding away.

Hunter, 5, says the dog was his best friend.

“We used to sleep in the same room,” he said.

Hunter’s father told News 12 he got Mila for his son just about a year ago, a gift that quickly became part of the family.

“It’s definitely sad, it’s sad for him,” he said. “It’s hard for me to have to explain what happened to this dog.”

Police are still searching for the driver involved.
