4h agoA Brooklyn Boy Scout troop is devastated after learning that their equipment trailer was stolen in the middle of the night.
The trailer of Troop 396 uses the parking lot in Gerritsen Beach to park their trailer, but now it’s nowhere to be seen after it was stolen last week.
The troop has been around the beach for 81 years, stationed inside the Resurrection Church. Surveillance videos from neighbors showed that at 1 a.m. last Sunday, a pickup truck entered the parking lot, picked the locks and drove off with the trailer within a matter of minutes.
Scoutmaster Andrew Sherman estimates that the trailer costs about $5,800, and says it was used by scouts to transport gear and equipment for camping trips. The troop has a trip coming up in just two weeks at Ten Mile River, and leaders are scrambling to assess the damages and figure out alternative plans.
Police have confirmed that a grand larceny report was filed in this incident, and the Boy Scouts are now working with community groups to prevent this from happening again.
