A fight between two illegal vendors on the Coney Island boardwalk turned violent Tuesday night.
Police say Maria Poaquiza, 36, got into an argument with a 42-year-old woman that escalated when Poaquiza allegedly punched her in the face, struck her with an umbrella and then slashed her arm with a knife.
Exclusive photos obtained by News 12 show officers recovering the knife from the scene and placing Poaquiza under arrest.
“She was a little woman, so it was kind of crazy. You never know, you don’t judge a book by its cover,” said Gezy, who witnessed the arrest.
Police say Poaquiza has been charged with two counts of assault.
News 12 reached out to NYC Parks for comment on the incident and ongoing enforcement of illegal vending on the boardwalk but has not yet heard back.
