The American Medical Association estimates one in five female high school students has been physically or sexually abused by a dating partner.
In light of the recent episode of domestic violence made public between pop stars Chris Brown and Rihanna, medical professionals believe now is the time to address the issue with teens in the Bronx and across the United States.
Experts say physical and mental abuse within relationships plagues roughly 11 percent of high school students. They believe raising awareness about the prevalence of abuse could offer teens an outlet to seek help if they are in a violent relationship.
