You may have heard the sirens of the all-women Ezras Nashim volunteer ambulance services in Borough Park.
Now with a new ambulance, they say they'll be able to better access Crown Heights and Flatbush.
Leah Freier Levine, chief operating officer of Ezras Nashim, says the goal is to make people more comfortable.
“Women delay calling for help because they're embarrassed to be seen by males during a vulnerable time in their life during an emergency. So many of them hesitate. Should I call? They wait for tomorrow for a doctor. But when it comes to us response time, they know that it's only women and they're very comfortable," said Levine.
The ambulance services serve anyone who calls. People in the Crown Heights community, like Muli Bergr, say it will be a good addition to the community.
“It's amazing. More help, faster times, people to be able to be helped and treated. That's amazing," said Bergr.
It comes as FDNY data shows ambulance response times have gotten slightly longer this year compared to last year.
A City Hall spokesperson tells News 12 traffic conditions play a big part in that.
Levine tells me it's a factor Ezras Nashim takes into consideration.
“When a call comes in, we have members all around the community with their own vehicles, their own equipment and their own lights and sirens. So when a call comes in, we're not waiting just for the ambulance to get there. The members that live closest to the patient will respond with their own cars," said Levine.
