Widespread rain moves in Thursday with periods of heavy downpours and gusty winds expected throughout the day.

Clouds will stick around tonight with just a slight chance of a few light showers late. Temperatures drop into the mid-40s with a steady northeast breeze. Wednesday stays mostly dry but cool, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the upper 50s. A few light showers may develop late in the day or overnight as moisture increases ahead of a stronger system.

Thursday will be the main weather maker of the week. Widespread rain moves in early and continues through the day, with periods of heavy rainfall possible. We'll get a break midday before a second round of rainfall moves in from 2 p.m. until about 9 p.m. Temperatures will hover in the low 60s, and winds could gust up to 40 mph at times.

Offshore, Hurricane Melissa made landfall this afternoon on Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane. As it continues over the island, it is expected to lose intensity. It will continue to Cuba, Haiti, and the surrounding islands tonight and into tomorrow.

Rain looks to continue Thursday night before tapering off early Friday. Skies gradually clear heading into the weekend, with a return to breezy but dry and seasonable conditions Friday through Sunday.
