A landmark restaurant on City Island was still smoldering hours after the flames were extinguished overnight in the wake of Sandy's destruction.
More than 130 firefighters battled flames, high winds and heavy rain at Tony's Pier Restaurant during the height of the storm. Officials say it took four hours to contain the three-alarm blaze because of the severe weather.
"So many memories here of eating with family," said local resident Vanessa Vega. "It's gone. It's scary."
No injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. The structure will eventually be torn down after 20 years in business.
