Families headed to Asbury Park this Memorial Day weekend to kick off the unofficial start of summer.

The Asbury Park Police Department issued a warning on Sunday that alerted residents of a possible pop-up party on the beachfront.

Posts on social media advertising the party prompted police to issue the warning.

These parties are happening at other beach towns and most recently in Long Branch, where police had to break up large crowds with flash bangs and instate a curfew.

According to the police advisory, they investigated the social media post to check its credibility.

As a precaution, police also patrolled the boardwalk and the surrounding area.

News 12 New Jersey spoke to some beachgoers who said they were not aware of the social media post that advertised the party.

Other beachgoers said the day's weather was perfect, and after Saturday's storms they said they were glad to have one perfect beach day this holiday weekend.

"We love this weather. It's amazing, especially coming out of yesterday's weather, which was like crazy, stormy, we were just really happy to have a nice day," said Robert Rivera, of Linden.

While some soaked up the sun, some local veterans took the opportunity of the crowds Memorial Day brings to the beach to do some service and honor the fallen.

"We're trying to collect money for vets. We have a lot of programs that we like to donate to and keep things going," said Vietnam War veteran Richard Knight.

The sunny weather also brought out-of-towners to Asbury Park.

"We wanted a quick get away from New York and Asbury Park got it going on! It's nice weather, life is good out here, it's real beautiful," said Eddie Griffith, of Brooklyn.
