Families and survivors paid tribute Tuesday to victims of violence at a special event at the Bronx Zoo.
The event was hosted by the Bronx District Attorney's Office in honor of National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
"Until we can accomplish ending the violence, I want everyone to know we are here for the survivors," says District Attorney Darcel Clark.
Clark says it's a day of sorrow but it's also a celebration of life for those who have made it out. The family of Yadira Arroyo, an EMT worker who died after Jose Gonzalez stole her ambulance and ran her over, spoke about the person she was.
The Celia Cruz High School choir performed and survivors as well as family members shared their stories.
