A family escaped a fire that severely damaged their Canarsie home Sunday morning.

Officials say the flames sparked around 7 a.m. in the basement of 1355 E. 94 St.

A mother and her two sons were home at the time and fled to safety unharmed.

Officials say the fire quickly spread to the first floor of the home, causing major damage to the interior.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
