A Brooklyn family is filing a lawsuit against the NYPD for the fatal shooting of Dwayne Jeune.
Jeune was shot and killed by an NYPD officer in July.
The family says Jeune was emotionally disturbed.
According to investigators, his mother called 911 for help, and when the officers arrived, Jeune charged at the police with a knife.
One officer tried to halt Jeune with a stun gun, but when that didn’t work, a second officer, Miguel Gonzalez, shot and killed him.
The family’s attorney says the officer who fired at Jeune wasn’t properly trained to deal with emotionally disturbed people.
“It is injustice for an officer who is untrained to kill my son,” said Jeune’s mother. “I called 911 for assistance for them to take him to the hospital to get his medication, not expecting that the police would kill my son.”
