The family of Akai Gurley, who was shot to death in a NYCHA building stairwell last year, is continuing to seek justice for him.
On Tuesday, a judge denied the defense's motion to dismiss the felony criminal case against NYPD Officer Peter Liang for which he was indicted. Liang is charged with manslaughter in connection with the shooting in a dimly lit stairwell of the Pink Houses in East New York on Nov. 20.
The case will now proceed to trial.
The Gurley family says they are still grieving. They held a peaceful rally Tuesday where they said that they will not stop until justice for Gurley has been achieved and Officer Liang is in jail.
News 12 was not able to speak with Liang's defense team for comment.
The 28-year-old Gurley was unarmed when he was shot and left behind a son. At the time, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said the shooting appeared to be accidental.
