Friends and family of John Sarquiz, who was assaulted and robbed in Dyker Heights last week, are putting together the pieces following his death.
Police say John Sarquiz was assauled and robbed on the corner of 13th Avenue and 73rd Street in Brooklyn last week. Candles and flowers now lie at that intersection where he was beaten and robbed.
His sister, Christina Sarquiz, describes her brother as a lovable and simple man who loved sports, took care of their mother, and was a well-respected member of the community. His family remained by his side at the hospital in the days following his assault, before he succumbed to his injuries.
“I know that God forgives you, and I hope that someday my family and I can. But right now, we can’t,” said Christina Sarquiz.
The NYPD has made no arrests at this time.
