The family of a man who was stabbed to death while attempting to break up a fight is seeking justice in his slaying.
More than 100 family members and friends gathered Friday at Liberty Avenue and Ashford Street to honor Charles Pena at the spot where he was killed last Sunday.
Friends say the 29-year-old was walking by a restaurant when he saw a group of men fighting. Witnesses say that when he tried to break up the fight, he was stabbed to death.
?Charlie was the heart of East New York,? says his sister Nelly Reyes. ?He grew up here, everyone knew him.
?He had the biggest smile in the world. You saw him coming down the block, you saw him smiling.?
Two other people were also stabbed that night and taken to the hospital. Pena?s family is urging anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the NYPD.
