Baseball fans filled Yankee Stadium Monday for the last All-Star Game in the House that Ruth Built.
Lovers of the game got a real show as the game went into extra innings, lasting late into the night. In the end, Justin Morneau slid home just in time on Michael Young's sacrifice fly in the 15th inning, giving the American League a 4-3 victory that extended its unbeaten streak to 12.
The game started at 8 p.m. Tuesday, but people who arrived early were able to enjoy the daylong festivities before the game. There was a red carpet show and an All-Star parade from 40th Street to 58th Street along 6th Avenue.
Many fans said they had been waiting years for the All-Star game to come back to the Bronx.
The honor of hosting the All-Star game proved to be bittersweet for some locals and business owners, however. A number of Bronx residents said that along with the privilege of having the game in the borough comes rowdy fans and lots of litter on the streets.
