FarmSteady Kits allow for do-it-yourself cooking at home
Making food from scratch has its benefits, but making homemade sauerkraut, fresh cheese and even bagels can be intimidating for even the most seasoned expert.
Erica Shea and Stephen Valand say they thought of the idea for FarmSteady Kits when the do-it-yourself, or DIY, craze rapidly started growing.

“So we started FarmSteady to try and get people to make things from scratch that they didn't necessarily realize that they could make at home,” says Shea.

The kits feature things such as making your own sauerkraut at home, including everything you need, except the cabbage.

“There is no mystery to what you are eating when actually see everything going in to it and you are making it yourself,” says Shea.

FarmSteady has several kits from baking to cheese making and fermenting vegetables.

They also feature a favorite kit among New Yorkers - an everything bagel and cream cheese making kit.

“When we teach classes and really meet people and show them what we are doing and they can do it and like and they see that light bulb go off where people can realize that they can do this at home, and it's easy; it reminds us of why we got started in doing this at all,” says Valand.
