Dozens of anti-violence organizations, conflict moderators and peer advocates converged on the steps of the Bronx Supreme Courthouse Friday to denounce the recent surge in violence and kick off Peace Week.

“It’s time for peace, it's time for people to embrace each other,” said legendary rapper Fat Joe. 

Fat Joe called for a stop to the violence and shootings in the city Friday, particularly in the Bronx.

“We are here to say no more,” said Fat Joe. 

Many expressed their outrage over the recent shooting of an infant on East 198th Street and Valentine Avenue. Friday's shooting left the baby girl who turned 1 in critical but stable condition.

This is the 12th year of the weeklong initiative that is designed to reinforce a commitment to making peace a lifestyle.

Advocates are urging those seeking retaliation to reach out to them instead of a gun.

Community leaders say more needs to be done to give Bronx residents, particularly young people, more opportunities.
