Father of son killed by police in 1994 remembered as a ‘warrior’
Friends and family said their final goodbyes Tuesday to Nicholas Heyward Sr.– a man who fought for justice after his 13-year-old son was shot and killed by a police officer in 1994.
At the time, his son was playing with a toy gun.
Nicholas Heyward Sr. passed away on New Year’s Eve. The officer who shot his son was not held accountable for his actions.
Family and friends say Heyward Sr. dedicated his life to fighting for justice for his son and others who were victims of police brutality.
His funeral was held Tuesday at House of the Lord Church in Boerum Hill. Family remembered him as a “natural hero” and a “warrior.”
