FDNY: 2 women dead, 7 others injured in Wakefield apartment fire

The Department of Building officials say the apartment has 32 open violations.

Firefighters were deployed to a massive fire early Wednesday morning in Wakefield that left two women dead and several others injured.
FDNY members arrived at the scene at around 5:25 a.m. for a fire on the top floor of the apartment. The fire was placed under control at 7:18 a.m.
According to officials, two women died, and seven people were injured, including five firefighters - two with life-threatening injuries.
The Red Cross was at the scene assisting displaced families, with officials telling News 12 that at least 100 people are being given temporary housing by the Red Cross and other New York City agencies. 
According to the Department of Buildings, the apartment has 32 open violations. They say that the fifth floor of the building has been issued a partial vacate order. 
Fire officials say that the fire started on the fifth floor of the building, but the cause of the fire has not been determined.
