Many residents living on Shepherd Avenue say they watched parts of their home go up in flames on Wednesday, and now they're forced to find somewhere else to go.
The FDNY told News 12 that the fire started after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in a two-story building.
It said that three people from the home, along with three first responders, were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
The Department of Buildings said it did an inspection and found fire damage, including a missing skylight and damage to the first-floor walls and doors.
Inspectors also found an apartment had been created in the cellar.
It issued multiple tickets for things like work without a permit and for occupancy.
The department also issued a partial vacate order for the cellar level.
