FDNY: Brush fire extinguished in Marine Park

The FDNY extinguished a brush fire Saturday afternoon in Marine Park near Gerritsen Beach Park.

The fire started before 1:18 p.m. near the waterfront.

News 12 saw an FDNY crews in the water and on the ground and NYPD crews in the air spraying the water with a Bambi bucket.

The FDNY says the multiple units including volunteer firefighters aided in battling the fire which was difficult to access.

They say units began to clear the scene around 4:05 p.m. The fire comes as winds from the northwest are dry and gusts are nearly 40 mph.

“I’m looking up I see smoke and I see a helicopter. I get out the car and I see that there’s a lot of FDNY and police out here,” said Gio Grant

The cause of the fire remains unknown as of Saturday night.
