Fire marshals with the FDNY have arrested Rafiqul Islam on several counts, including arson and attempted murder, after a September fire at a building he owns on Forbell Street.
The FDNY says he allegedly lit the building on fire because his second-floor tenants stopped paying rent.
The fire started in the staircase of the three-story home at 212 Forbell St. on Sept. 26 in the early morning hours. Tenants were forced to jump from the windows to save their lives.
The FDNY says the fire marshals spent four weeks reviewing video evidence prior to arresting Islam.
Islam has also been charged with reckless endangerment and assault.
