The FDNY on Tuesday handed out free smoke detectors outside state Assemblyman Nick Perry's office in the wake of a fatal fire last weekend.
Firefighters say there were no functioning fire alarms in the East Flatbush building where two people died and five suffered injuries on Saturday.
With many borough residents burning candles and hanging lights for the holiday season, the FDNY and Perry are urging them to check their smoke alarms.
Some of the residents who received new smoke detectors say they could potentially be lifesaving safety devices.
