FDNY: Person rescued from water in Manhattan Beach
Red no swimming flags were on the beach and no lifeguards were on duty.
The FDNY says they responded to a water rescue Saturday afternoon in Manhattan Beach.
It happened near Oriental Boulevard around 4:40 p.m.
The victim was taken to the hospital. Their condition was still unknow as of Saturday night.
People like Ben Rabinovich said it's a scary thing to see.
"It's terrible, of course it's terrible. It shouldn't happen," Rabinovich said.
Red no swimming flags were on the beach and no lifeguards were on duty.
Beachgoers like Stephanie Abraham said beach safety is key.
"They should team up so at least there's a buddy system going on. They can keep an eye on each other. Because anything can happen to anyone at any age," Abraham said.
Rabinovich added that beach safety is especially important for children.
“Our grandchildren, when they’re here, you definitely have to keep them close by and watch them," Rabinovich said.
Lifeguards will return when city beaches reopen on Memorial Day Weekend. Until then, the city urges beachgoers not to go swimming while a lifeguard is not present.
