A fire at a Soundview apartment building injured two people and left a unit damaged.
The fire occurred at 1791 Bruckner Blvd. just after 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Fire officials say the fire started in the second-floor apartment and progressed to two alarms. Two people suffered minor injuries from the fire.
According to firefighters on the scene, there was a lot of clutter inside the apartment, making it difficult to navigate.
People News 12 spoke with that live above the apartment say that they’re just happy to be alive.
“The fire started underneath the apartment where I live and basically, I just smelt the smoke and then just started to leave,” said resident Katherine Burgos, who lives one floor above where the fire broke out. “We just grabbed all our stuff and ran out and started knocking on our neighbors' doors to get everybody out from my floor and just came outside."
