A woman was killed in a fire in Dyker Heights, according to the FDNY.

Police say the woman was in her 40s.

The fire occurred at a home located at 1237 67th St. on Tuesday.

News 12 was told she was living there illegally, squatting in the abandoned home.

There have been six fires at that address in the last two years, according to officials.

Council woman Susan Zhuang tells News 12 that she is pushing for the passage of legislation, which she coined the "squatter information bill." Intro 907 would ask the FDNY and NYPD to collect data and monitor squatters at abandoned homes and reported locations.

Assemblyman Lester Chang says he is also pushing for lawmakers up in Albany to "do more."

"Unfortunately, somebody had to die to get this kind of attention," shared Chang. Zhuang also expressed her condolences to the loved ones of the woman who was killed in the blaze.

The NYPD is withholding her identity until her family is notified.
