Federal agents raided a Sunset Park spa Wednesday morning.
The spa on 57th Street was the target of a
violent robbery early Sunday morning. Police say three men armed with knives stormed into the spa, forcing four workers and four customers to the ground. Surveillance video showed the attackers punching and kicking victims while stealing cash, jewelry, jackets and shoes. Five people were hospitalized.
Local leaders said they believe the timing of the federal visit was not a coincidence.
“The news just came out yesterday about the robbery at this spa, and this morning federal agents are at the spa,” District Leader Joyce Xie said.
Council Member Susan Zhuang said constant immigration enforcement in the neighborhood is causing fear.
"I worry people are not going to report crime anymore and the community not being safe," said Zhuang.
ICE has not responded to a request for comment, and it remains unclear whether anyone was detained during the raid.
Police continue to search for the three men wanted in Sunday’s robbery.
