The only female police officer to die in the World Trade Center attacks was honored in Bay Ridge Wednesday.
State Sen. Martin Golden helped unveil a plaque in memory of Officer Moira Smith, who was 38, at the Bay Ridge branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The plaque, with a picture of the Bay Ridge native, will remain at the library for a month.
The tribute's permanent home is in Albany. Lawmakers first bestowed the honor on Smith, a 13-year NYPD veteran, earlier this year as part of their Senate Woman of Distinction program.
Smith's 8-year-old daughter and husband say they're honored by the distinction. Smith was last seen alive around the Twin Towers during the Sept. 11 attacks.
