Days after Grand Rabbi Moses Teitelbaum died, his two sons, Zalmen and Aaron, are still feuding over who will become the next leader of the ultra-Orthodox Satmar Jewish community.
According to Zalmen, he was selected years ago by Teitelbaum and it is spelled out in his will. However, supporters of Aaron say the will cannot be trusted because the grand rebbe developed Alzheimer?s before it was written.
The new grand rabbi will preside over more than 120,000 followers worldwide and an organization with assets of more than $500 million. Some believe the fight between the two brothers is over power and money rather than who will be the next spiritual leader.
Zalmen currently leads the Williamsburg Satmar community. His brother Aaron leads a Satmar sect with thousands of members in upstate New York.
