Essence Magazine held its second annual street style block party under the Manhattan Bridge Archway Sunday.
Everyone from street style bloggers, fans of fashion and even children showed up in their sartorial best. Since social media is vital for displaying the latest street styles, there were tons of selfies being taken at the event for sites like Instagram.
Many people say women of color aren't featured enough in fashion. Organizers say the event allows them to show off their personal style.
Cori Murray, the entertainment director at Essence, says the event is a celebration of diversity, adding that it's a great opportunity for African-American women to express themselves and connect with fashion designers.
The event featured performances by artist Andra Day and special appearances by movie stars like Gabrielle Union, and Mel B from the Spice Girls.
