The fight continues between Ditmas Park neighbors and a developer planning to demolish a Victorian house on East 28th Street.
Residents say that the house is an important part of the fabric of their community, and they do not want to see a planned seven-story building replace it in their neighborhood.
“I think it’s a bit upsetting that we have no input, we have no say about what’s going on,” said one resident.
Scaffolding has since been put around the building, along with demolition permits.
Two residents on the street were also involved in a lawsuit against the owner of the property at 486 East 28th St. They claim the scaffolding is built partially on the property of neighbors and is blocking their driveways. The judge found that the scaffolding can remain in place, and the demolition can continue during appropriate daytime hours.
The neighbors say they are planning to appeal and say they hope that their concerns will be heard by the developer. They also say that they are willing to buy the property back, and want to get elected officials involved.
“If they choose to sell it to us, we will buy it,” said another resident. “If they choose to put a smaller structure, we will go along with that.”
