After almost three years in court, the fight for justice in the 2020 murder of Brandon Hendricks may come to a close soon.
The trial is expected to conclude some time this week. It started in 2021 after Brandon Hendricks was struck and killed by a stray bullet on June 28, 2020. He was 17 years old.
Nahjim Luke, the suspect who took the stand, faces charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
"From 2021, we have been waiting,” said Eve Hendricks, Brandon’s mother. “I will not get my son back but I will have some type of relief that we still have justice."
Eve Hendricks says she and her family have been in and out of Bronx Criminal Court since last Wednesday.
She says she’s more worried than ever after Nahjim Luke’s defense team stated they believe the evidence was not legally sufficient nor competent and issued a motion for the case to be dismissed. The judge denied that motion, and both the prosecution and defense have given their closen arguments.
The trial will continue on Friday with a verdict expected to come soon.
