Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of a blaze in the psychiatric ward of Interfaith Medical Center on Atlantic Avenue Saturday night.
According to Melissa Krantz of Interfaith Medical Center, the small fire broke out in a patient?s room on the eighth floor after 10 p.m. Firefighters on the scene evacuated all 29 patients in the ward.
The patients were set up in temporary rooms on the sixth floor while the cause of the fire is investigated. Despite family members? concerns about the safety of the patients, spokespeople from Interfaith Medical Center said the psychiatric ward is a safely secured unit and the patients were unharmed.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
