Members of the FDNY are mourning a firefighter who died while in the line of duty in East Flatbush.

Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, 42, died after suffering a medical episode while battling a fire on Saturday. The 11-year veteran of the department collapsed while working on the roof of an all-hands fire along Kings Highway. His fellow firefighters and FDNY EMS members immediately rushed to help, performing life-saving measures before Brady was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where he later died.

Dozens of firefighters gathered Sunday outside his firehouse for a bunting ceremony — a solemn FDNY tradition that honors members who die in the line of duty. They stood shoulder to shoulder, others wiping away tears, as they remembered a man who died while doing what he loved.

Mayor Eric Adams called Brady’s death “the most selfless sacrifice,” noting that firefighting ran deep in his family.Brady is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are also FDNY firefighters. His cousins and uncles have served as well, part of a proud family legacy of service.

FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said the department is heartbroken, describing Brady as a dedicated public servant whose passion for firefighting was undeniable.

Brady is the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty — a number that represents not just loss, but sacrifice, the kind of commitment that defines the city’s bravest.

Funeral arrangements were still being finalized as of Sunday afternoon.

In a statement, FDNY Uniformed Firefighters Association President Andrew Ansbro said, “The entire firefighting family mourns the heartbreaking loss of one of our own — Firefighter Patrick Brady. Every time a firefighter leaves the firehouse, they accept the real and constant risk that they Pmay not return home. Firefighter Brady made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the people of this city, and his passing is a devastating reminder of the dangers our members face every single day in service to others.

Patrick came from a proud FDNY family — a legacy of courage, dedication, and love for New York. His loss will be felt not only in the firehouse but across the entire city that he served with such honor. On behalf of the UFA, I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Kara, his brothers Jimmy and Brian, and the entire Brady family. We will stand beside them and ensure that Patrick’s bravery and commitment are never forgotten.”
