East New York fire leaves 1 person in serious condition, 2 firefighters injured

Twenty-one people are without a home Monday night after a fire spread across two family homes in East New York.

Twenty-one people are without a home Monday night after a fire spread across two family homes in East New York.
Fire officials say one person is in serious but stable condition following the fire. Two firefighters were also injured trying to put out the flames on Belmont Avenue, but are expected to be OK. 
Heavy smoke poured from the buildings. Neighbors say they were able to see smoke traveling down the entire block.
According to those in the area, even with all the chaos, people made sure to help one another. One woman who was trapped inside the building where the fire started was rescued byher a neighbor after screaming for help.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
