Firefighters are probing an early morning fire in Brooklyn Friday.
Officials say the three-alarm blaze broke out around 6:30 on Nassau Avenue. Fire officials say it took only 45 minutes to successfully battle the fire, but not before it took its toll on homes and businesses. A bodega, restaurant, office, DVD store and four apartments were all severely damaged by the fire.
According to fire officials, the blaze may have started on one of the top floors.
Officials say one person was treated for minor smoke inhalation. They say no one else was hurt.
A man who owns the DVD store and also lived in it told News 12 Brooklyn that he might be responsible for the blaze. He says he left for the restroom at around 6 a.m. and came back to find his mattress and heater engulfed in flames.
But one resident believes that story is only partially true.
?A man is living illegally in there, in a little storefront, and he smokes and he started a fire,? says Steve Listengard, who also says that he, his wife and 4-month-old son are now homeless.
The DVD store owner told News 12 that he?s out of business for good. Workers at the bodega, though, says that they plan to reopen sometime soon.
