The first batch of mosquitos carrying the West Nile virus have been spotted in the Hudson Valley.
The infected insects were found in Rye. The Westchester Health Department is now inspecting the surrounding areas where the mosquitos were detected.
The health department says people should get rid of any standing water after it rains, turn over wheelbarrows, flowerpot drip trays and any toy pails or watering cans to avoid attracting mosquitos.
They also say to change the water in bird baths at least twice weekly and clean out gutters from leaves or other debris. Using repellents from dawn to dusk when mosquitos are most active is also recommended.
