Starting Monday, children suffering from trauma will no longer have to travel far for the special care they need.
Maimonides Medical Center is now equipped to treat life-threatening injuries, becoming the first pediatric trauma center in Brooklyn.
The program was approved by the New York State Department of Health as a pediatric and adult trauma center.
The center has special staff members on hand to handle and treat life-threatening injures in both children and adults.
John Marshall, the chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, says the center will be stocked with blood so it can be quickly given to trauma patients.
