The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office sentenced a Flatbush man for the 2022 murder and dismemberment of a corpse.

Nicholas McGee, 48, was sentenced to life without parole for fatally stabbing Kawsheen Gelzer, 39, in March 2022 and storing Gelzer’s remains in his refrigerator for nearly two years.

“Medical testimony established the defendant also inflicted more than 60 sharp force injuries to the victim's head, torso and extremities and struck the victim multiple times in the head with a hammer during the attack,” the DA’s office said.

McGee went through Gelzer’s pockets and removed drugs he later used with his wife, 48-year-old Heather Stines following the fatal attack.

Prosecutors say that McGee stored Gelzer’s body in the bathtub for several days before dismembering his corpse using a saw and hammer. McGee placed the remains in plastic bags in his apartment’s refrigerator and freezer, which he sealed shut with tape and glue.

An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip led to the discovery of Gelzer’s remains on Jan. 20, 2024. McGee confessed to the crime while in custody in Virginia on an unrelated matter, according to court documents.

"This was a deeply disturbing act of violence by a defendant who not only stole a man's life, but then desecrated his body. The cruelty and disregard for human life shown in the case are almost beyond comprehension. Today's sentence holds the defendant accountable for his horrific crimes and serves as a reminder that those who commit such heinous crimes in Brooklyn will face the most serious consequences under the law,” said District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

Stines pleaded guilty to concealment of a human corpse and bail jumping in Oct. 2024 and will be sentenced at a later date.
