Severe rain caused an ugly morning commute on Friday.Flooding from the heavy downpours left puddles across the Bronx and the rest of the city. Drivers also had to contend with the closure of Mosholu Parkway at West Gun Hill Road due to a retaining wall collapse. No one was injured as a result of the incident. The facade of the wall collapsed near the Major Deegan, but the wall behind that remained intact. Police closed off the area to prevent injuries in the event of a further collapse. Many drivers trying to get to work said the floodwaters forced cars to move at a snail's pace. Representatives from the Department of Environmental Protection say the sheer volume of rainfall is to blame for the flooding. They also say some sewers may have been at capacity, which caused flooding in many areas.
